You Keep Saying "Soon." Soon Became Six Months Ago
It's that time of year where everyone's posting a sunset, a coastline or a balcony photo and you might be getting a little jealous. They say that comparison is the thief of joy. However and stay with us here you do need to travel more.
For a lot of us, our weeks revolve around work and responsibilities. You've probably got some kind of routine that rarely changes from month to month, which can be nice, but have you ever noticed the weeks going by and felt like you've not really done anything? Have you found yourself saying, "Hm, how is it this time of year already?"
We become so distracted with our routines that we forget we should enjoy the time we have off work. Travel is one of the simplest ways to do that. And not just a five-star hotel in Dubai. A weekend road trip to the coast. A train journey to that town you've never visited. A cool corner of the city you've never been to. That's the beauty of travel it doesn't even need to be expensive.

'In fact, some of the best trips rarely are.'
You've Been Lied to About What Travel Means
Travel has somehow become associated with luxury. Beach clubs, infinity pools, expensive resorts. While there's nothing wrong with any of those things, they've distracted us from what travel is really about. Travel is about experiencing something different. Getting lost down a street and discovering a café you'd never have found otherwise. Sitting on a beach, walking through a forest, exploring a market, or simply spending a day somewhere you've never been before.
Your Memory Keeps Score
When every day looks the same, time seems to move faster. Weeks blur into months and before you know it another season has passed. Think about a typical work week from six months ago. Chances are you can barely remember it. Now think about a trip you took a few years ago. You can probably remember specific moments, conversations, meals and views as though they happened yesterday. That's because experiences leave a mark. They give substance to our lives.
No Passport Required

And if a holiday abroad isn't possible right now, that's completely fine. The point isn't to spend money you don't have. Sometimes the answer is a staycation. Book a couple of
days off, switch off your emails and become a tourist in your own area. Visit places you've always said you'd get around to seeing. You don't need a passport stamp to gain a new perspective.
What matters is making the conscious decision to do something different. Because life isn't supposed to be lived entirely between your workplace and your sofa. The days we remember are usually the ones where something unexpected happened.
So yes, comparison may be the thief of joy but there is a lesson in all those sunset photos. Go out and see something new.
Life's too short.
