A wave of surprise has hit the fashion industry following the news of Peter Hawking's departure as Creative Director at Tom Ford. Hawking assumed the role in 2023 after the brand's acquisition by Estée Lauder Companies. Although his debut collection at Milan Fashion Week in Spring 2024 was well-received, his exit after a brief tenure leaves both the brand's future direction and Hawking's next venture uncertain.
Hawking began collaborating with Tom Ford himself in 1998 at Gucci, eventually rising to Senior Vice President of Menswear within the eponymous label. This deep understanding of the brand undoubtedly influenced his selection as Creative Director in 2023.

While details surrounding his departure are scarce, Hawking left his mark with two collections that embraced the brand's signature style. His Fall/Winter 2024 show, themed around "the power of a woman," drew inspiration from iconic figures.
The search for Hawking's successor is underway. This news adds Tom Ford to the growing list of luxury fashion houses experiencing leadership changes, joining Chanel, Givenchy, and Dries Van Noten.
All eyes are now on Tom Ford's future direction under new creative leadership. The brand's Spring/Summer 2025 collection is still expected to be presented during Milan Fashion Week in September.
